From the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office:

Woman sentenced in local bank robbery case

NORTHAMPTON – Rosa Murillo, 27, of Springfield, pleaded guilty Monday to robbing the Westfield Bank on Willimansett Street in South Hadley. Hampshire Superior Court Judge Jane E. Mulqueen sentenced Murillo to 4–5 years in state prison after accepting her guilty plea to one count of unarmed robbery and one count of making a bomb/hijack threat.

The charges stem from a December 2024 incident in which Murillo demanded cash from a bank teller while claiming she had a bomb strapped to her. She was apprehended by police two days later and has remained held on bail since. A Hampshire County Grand Jury indicted Murillo in February 2025.

Murillo will be on probation for two years after her release from prison, during which she must complete a substance abuse evaluation and treatment, submit to random drug screening, and stay away from all Westfield Bank locations. Murillo received credit for the 352 days she has remained held since her arrest.

The sentence was jointly recommended by Assistant District Attorney Andrew Covington and defense attorney Everald Henry. Assistant District Attorney Covington commented, “Bank robberies inflict lasting fear on victims, and Ms. Murillo’s conduct was both desperate and serious. The Commonwealth believes that a state prison sentence followed by probation strikes the right balance between punishment, protecting the public and giving this young defendant a real chance at rehabilitation.”
