GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — In July, the Greenfield City Council voted to declare the Hope Street parking lot as surplus and issue an RFP to solicit proposals for developing the site.

Franklin County Register of Probate John Merrigan and several community members gathered over 700 signatures for a petition submitted on Friday to the  City Clerk’s Office to reverse the City Council vote and allow citizens to decide on the future of the Hope Street parking lot in the November election.

The signatures must now be certified by the Clerk’s Office, and will need at least 430 certified signatures to move forward to the ballot.
