GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll visited Franklin County Monday with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities to discuss housing needs and strategy in rural communities with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments and local legislators Senator Jo Comerford, Representative Natalie Blais and Susannah Whipps.
Franklin County is short approximately 3,000 housing units as of 2024 and has the lowest vacancy rates and wages in the state. Currently, there is a state initiative to produce more housing – the Affordable Homes Act – that will allocate $5.16 billion to housing projects across the state over the course of five years.
The FRCOG urged Driscoll to designate Greenfield as a “Cornerstone Community” to help drive funds to the area.
