GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The City of Greenfield has announced that it is accepting applications for the Senior and Veterans Tax Work-off Program starting on Tuesday, September 2.
Homeowners aged 60 and older may be eligible to receive a real estate tax reduction of up to $2,000 by “working off” the equivalent hours based on Massachusetts’s current minimum wage.

GREENFIELD – The City of Greenfield will begin accepting applications for the Senior and Veterans
Tax Work-off Program on Tuesday, September 2.
Senior Tax Work-off Program
Greenfield homeowners aged 60+ who are accepted into the program receive a reduction of up to $2,000
in their real estate tax bill by “working off” the equivalent hours based on the current minimum wage in
Massachusetts.
Applications are available starting on September 2 at the Greenfield Senior Center at the John Zon
Community Center during business hours, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM, to pick up an application
packet. Completed applications should be returned to the front desk at the Senior Center no later than
Tuesday, September 30.
Here are some important facts to know about the Senior Tax Work-off Program:
• The work period is now ten months. Work may occur from January 2, 2026, through October
31, 2026.
• Seniors must be age 60 or older at the time of applying.
• If more than 25 qualified people apply, a lottery will be held. Placement notifications will be in
October.
• Senior must not be receiving a tax work-off discount in another city or town.
• Senior must have lived in Massachusetts for the previous ten years and must have owned and
occupied real estate in Greenfield for the previous five years.
