Greenfield man held without bail following alleged stabbing

GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — 32 year old Carlos Naranjo of Greenfield was arraigned this morning in Greenfield District Court in connection with an armed assault at Roberto’s Pizzeria in Greenfield on Wednesday where Naranjo allegedly stabbed his father. Naranjo is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on April 22nd.

Suspect Arraigned for Armed Assault in Greenfield
GREENFIELD – Carlos Naranjo, 32, of Greenfield was arraigned this morning in Greenfield District Court in
connection with an armed assault.
Naranjo is charged with the following offenses:
• Armed assault with intent to murder a person 60 or older
• Assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury
• Assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon on a person 60 or older
Assistant District Attorney Elayna Bartolomeo represented the Commonwealth. Attorney Emily Shallcross,
of the Committee for Public Counsel Services, represented Naranjo. Judge William F. Mazanec presided
over the matter.
A 58A dangerousness hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 22. Naranjo is currently being held
without the right to bail pending that hearing.
The charges stem from an incident which occurred at approximately 6:45 pm on April 15, in which the
victim sustained serious injuries following an armed assault at Roberto’s Pizzeria on Federal Street. The
victim was transported by medical helicopter to a regional hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Naranjo was arrested a few hours after the alleged assault at a residence in Greenfield.
The victim and suspect were known to one another, and this is not believed to be a random attack. The
matter remains under active investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the
Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and
the Greenfield Police Department.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court
