GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield City Council held a Special Meeting Wednesday evening to discuss the ballot question in regards to the citizens’ petition against the Council’s vote to authorize the Mayor to sell the Hope Street parking lot.
In addition to the Council, the city’s attorney Gordon Quinn was in attendance to offer explanation around the proposed changes to the ballot question as voted on in the regular City Council meeting on August 20th.
In essence, the proposed changes switched the meaning of a yes or no vote. Ultimately, what the Council voted in favor of is to have a “yes” vote mean the voter is in favor of rescinding the Council’s measure authorizing the sale of the property, while a “no” vote would uphold the Council measure authorizing the sale of the property.
The ballot question will come before Greenfield voters this November.
