GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — At Wednesday’s Greenfield City Council meeting, the council voted to uphold their decision to declare the Hope Street parking lot as surplus, following a citizen’s petition requesting that the Council rescind their vote from July.
A second motion was then discussed at length, as a result of the Council deciding to uphold their vote the question must now be put to the voters in the next election. Concerns were raised about the nature of the ballot question as the City’s counsel determined the ballot question would be binding.
After lengthy discussion over how to appropriate word the ballot question, which will now be reviewed by an attorney before being placed on the ballot, the question was voted to move forward and will now go to the ballot in November’s local election so voters may decide if the lot is to be sold by the city.
