COLRAIN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A fire broke out in the Cook State Forest on the Colrain-Heath town line Sunday evening and is expected to grow overnight.
The fire was located with the help of the Greenfield Fire Department’s Drone Unit.
Colrain Emergency Management Director Nona Martin-Anzuoni said Sunday evening there was no current estimate of the fire’s size, however Department Officials did say the fire was not threatening anything aside from forest.
It is expected to take several days to fully extinguish the fire with the aid of multiple fire departments and the Franklin County Wildland Hand Crew, due to access issues and heavy logging slash in the crews’ path.
The Colrain Fire Department is asking the public to avoid the area, so they may safely do their job.
