GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — With $276,000 to spend, Greenfield’s Community Preservation Committee is beginning work on the next round of Community Presveration Act project funding for fiscal year 2026 and they are welcoming in pre-application proposals.

The pre-application process allows the Committee to determine eligibility and are due by September 17th with full applications due by November 17th. Applications may be found on the city’s website.

From the City of Greenfield:

Greenfield Seeks Proposals for Community Preservation Act Funding

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Community Preservation Committee (CPC) is seeking proposals for

projects requesting Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding for Fiscal Year 2026. One-page pre-

applications, which are required for determining project eligibility, are now available on the CPC’s

webpage (https://greenfield-ma.gov/cpcfunding) and are due by Wednesday, September 17. Applicants

whose projects are deemed eligible for funding will be invited to submit a complete application by

November 17.

The committee has approximately $276,000 to allocate toward projects submitted by individuals,

community groups, nonprofits, businesses, and city government that enhance affordable housing,

historic preservation, and outdoor recreation/open space.

“Community Preservation Act funding is a key resource for projects that both preserve and enhance our

community for current and future generations,” said Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher. “In addition to

projects related to open space and historic resources, these funds can also support projects related to

recreation and housing. I am proud that Greenfield participates in this program, which brings

considerable State funding into our community.”

The CPA funds are generated through the city’s participation in a State program that allows a 1%

surcharge on property taxes to be dedicated to these priorities. That amount is then supplemented each

year by State funding; the City has received over $175,000 in matching funds from its first three

distributions. Greenfield voters approved the program in November 2020.

The City of Greenfield is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, a

designated Green Community and a recipient of the “Leading by Example” Award.“The community interest in CPA funds has grown each year since we started the program,” said

Community Preservation Committee Chair Susan Worgaftik. “We’re really looking forward to seeing

what exciting project ideas people have lined up for this round of funding. The first step is easy: submit

a simple one-page pre-application to see if the project would be eligible for CPA funding.”

After a review of applications with public input, the committee will vote to recommend funding for

projects in spring 2026. A City Council vote is required to appropriate CPA funds for the selected

projects.

Fiscal year 2025 projects, approved by the Greenfield City Council in June, are just getting started.

These include historic preservation projects on Bank Row and the Franklin County Fairgrounds, new

housing units through the Greenfield Housing Authority and Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, and a

new interactive STEM mechanical chain reaction play panels at Hillside Park. The full list of Greenfield

Community Preservation Act projects from all funding rounds can be found at https://greenfield-

ma.gov/cpcfunding.

Those interested in learning more about the process or applying are encouraged to attend one of the

committee’s meetings or contact Community Development Administrator Anna Oltman at 413-772-

1548, ext. 5, or cpc@greenfield-ma.gov.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
