Cleary’s to vacate Wilson’s building; moving to new location in February 2026

GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The owner of Cleary Jewelers in Greenfield has announced a settlement has been reached with the owner of their retail space at 248 Main Street, and will vacate that space on Christmas Eve, December 24.

Kerry Semaski, in a message to her customers, said a deal has been struck between her business and MassDevelopment, Community Builders, and Franklin Community Co-op. The agreement comes after a prolonged period of negotiations that saw Semaski served an eviction notice, and Semaski forcefully vowing to remain in business in the space the jeweler has occupied since 1928.

MassDevelopment and Community Builders plan to renovate the former Wilson’s Department Store Building into a new, expanded home of Green Fields Market on the ground floor, and residential units on the upper floors. The project could not proceed without Cleary’s vacating its space.

An eviction notice was filed against Cleary’s by MassDevelopment in late August. This agreement seems to pave the way for the project to now move forward.

“It is with excitement and a heavy heart that I announce our time 248 Main Street is coming to end,” said Semaski. “After several years of negotiations, it is loud and clear how important Cleary Jewelers is to our community.”

Semaski said she will be opening her new location in Greenfield in February 2026, although she declined to say exactly where the new store will be located. Semaski indicated that she is still finalizing a lease agreement, and that the new location will allow easier access to the store, noting a lack of parking meters, suggesting that the store will no longer be located on Main Street.
