GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield Recreation Department’s annual Halloween celebrations will return next Friday, the 31st on Main Street for downtown business trick-or-treating and the Rag Shag Parade led by the Greenfield High School Marching Band. Trick-or-treating begins at 4 p.m. downtown and the Rag Shag Parade will kick off at 5:30 p.m. at the Mohawk Mall.

Greenfield to Host Ghoulish Halloween Gathering
Calling all ghosts, ghouls and friendly spirits! As part of the city’s annual holiday tradition, the Greenfield
Recreation Department is throwing a downtown Halloween celebration on Friday, October 31, from 4:00 p.m. to
7:30 p.m. The family-friendly festivities include various community-oriented events promoting the fun and
creativity synonymous with Halloween.
“Get ready for a fang-tastic night downtown! We love seeing costumes, laughter, and the creativity that makes
this tradition so special,” said Christy Moore, Recreation Director for the City of Greenfield. “This has become
one of our favorite traditions of the year. We look forward to seeing the joy, imagination, and community spirit
that make the night unforgettable.”
The celebration starts at 3:30 p.m., when the Greenfield Garden Cinema will host a free showing of the 1966 film
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The film has a runtime of 25 minutes. Trick-or-treating with participating
downtown businesses will occur from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Those participating in trick-or-treat can pick up a free bag at
the city common. Look for the special event pumpkin posters in participating business windows supplied by the
Greenfield Business Association.
The Rag Shag Parade will commence at 5:30 p.m., led by the Greenfield High School Marching Band. The parade
welcomes all costumed children, adults, and dogs to be celebrated by the community. The parade will begin at
Mohawk Mall before concluding at Energy Park for a costume contest.
“This annual Halloween celebration is a tradition I cherish because it showcases both our community spirit and
our community’s spirits,” said Mayor Virginia Desorgher. “I am especially looking forward to my role as a judge
in the costume contest this year and can’t wait to see the amazing creativity on display. It’s a night of fun, family,
and festivities that truly brings our downtown to life.”

• Best Adult Costume
• Best Group/Family Costume
• Best Howl-O-Ween Costume for animals
parents a spooktacular family fun night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Halloween night. All activities, including gym
games, inflatable obstacle courses, spooky swim and trick-or-treat, are free and open to the community.
