GREENFIELD >> Mayor Bill Martin has announced that, effective Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day, all “Pay to Park” spaces in kiosk lots will be free.
It is important to note, however, that “Permit Only” spaces are for those who purchased parking permits for the lot in question. Drivers who park in these spaces without the proper permit will be ticketed.
The purpose of free holiday parking is to encourage people to shop at downtown businesses. Parking will be free at the American Legion lot (behind Main Street), Ames Street lot, fire station lot, C & D lots (behind Wilson’s), Fiske Street lot, Hope Street lot, Miles Street lot, Olive Street lot and Pleasant Street lot. The Greenfield Town Hall (rear) lot will be available starting Dec. 21. Free parking applies only to these lots and not the metered spaces on the streets.
Handicapped parking will continue to be free and allowed in any space with proper vehicle identification. Town-wide parking on Sunday in lots and metered spaces will also continue to be free.
“It is my intention to assist the downtown business owners in making holiday shopping a pleasant and festive experience for those who come in Greenfield,” Mayor Martin said.
