Everyone will have an opportunity to take a break and cool off at the Public Hall or the Library during the heat of the day. Stroll the Common and visit tents with offerings of arts, crafts, activities, and helpful information. Enjoy music with performances throughout the day by Brook Batteau and his Band, the Curtis Rich Revue, the WhisperHoller Band, the Deborah Hill-Stevens Band, and the Shelburne Falls Military Band.

The Friends of Robert Strong Woodward will be on site with notecards and prints displaying the artwork of this renowned, local painter. Stop by the Buckland Union Cemetery Association’s tent for information about end-of-life planning and green burials. Get a chair massage from Margaret Olin while the kids play games.

Enjoy a perfect summer lunch of chili, baked beans, hot dogs and burgers (including veggie) from grill, chips, and drinks, all prepared by the Mary Lyon Church. Top it off with the Historical Society’s famous, homemade blueberry buckle and ice cream.

Stop in to cool off at the Buckland Public Hall and take a chance on raffles, peruse artisan displays, including quilts and other offerings hand-crafted by the Monday Nighters Quilting Group. Between 10am and noon, Author Ellen Feld will be signing her new book, The Five-Dollar Horse, a story about a boy, a horse, and an impossible dream, a good read to pick up for the kids.

The Buckland Historical Museum will be open all day. Check out their World War I and II artifacts display and a woodcarving demonstration by Shelby Howland. Kids will have an opportunity to try their hand at wood carving. Enjoy a nice cuppa Joe in the morning and grab some blueberry buckle while watching a “washer woman” demonstrate how laundry used to be done before electricity and modern washing machines.

The Buckland Public Library will be open all day as well! Its Community Room is a great place to cool off, sit, and relax. Meet the new librarian, Samantha (Sam) Bodine, and grab a snack, too. Books will be for sale, and Alan Young will offer a show-and-tell on how to make a pine needle basket.

The Summer Day event is hosted by the Mary Lyon Church, the Buckland Historical Society, the Buckland Union Cemetery Association, the Buckland Public Hall, the Buckland Public Library, and the Friends of Robert Strong Woodward.
