A look at this week’s recalls.

Child’s death prompts IKEA lamp recall
IKEA is recalling more than 2 million lamps, sold worldwide through its stores and online, after a 16-month- old child died as a result of getting tangled in the cord. In a separate incident, a 15-month-old child in a crib became entangled in the lamp’s cord and nearly strangled. The lamps, which retailed for between $10 and $13 each, were sold in eight designs, including a blue star, yellow moon, pink flower, white flower, red heart, green bug, blue seashell and an orange seahorse. Consumers should immediately stop using the lamps and contact IKEA for a repair kit.

8 retailers recalling flat-screen TVs
Eight nationwide retailers are recalling Coby 32-inch flat-screen televisions because of a fire hazard. At least six reports have been received about the televisions overheating, smoking, and/or catching on fire. Because the importer/distributor Coby USA is out of business, the individual retailers where the TVs were sold are providing remedies to consumers. Those who own one of the models being recalled should immediately unplug the TV stop using it.

Fire hazard prompts carpet recall
Shaw Industries is recalling more than 16,000-square-feet of carpeting sold exclusively at Lowe’s for failing to meet federal flammability standards. The carpet was sold through September and retailed for about $1 per square foot.

Trek recalls bicycles for brake failure
Trek is recalling more than 6,000 bicycles for a brake failure that result in the rider crashing the bike. The 2013 Trek Madone models retailed for upward of $3,000 each and were sold through this month at Trek retailers nationwide. Consumers should contact Trek for information on a replacement.
