FCC looking into slow Netflix streaming

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — So, what is the problem with Netflix streaming these days? The Federal Communications Commission says it’s trying to get to the bottom of that.

Recently the delivery of Netflix video streams and other online content has been slowed — even as Netflix has been blaming the trouble on ISPs like Verizon and Comcast.

Critics claim the ISPs are deliberately slowing incoming traffic from Web sites who aren’t willing to pay for a less congested portal to home users.

For their part, the ISPs are claim Netflix should take on the cost of handling the heavy traffic caused by its 36 million U.S subscribers watching video over high-speed Internet connections.

A research firm, Sandvine, reports that during peak viewing hours, Netflix accounts for about one-third of the Internet traffic in the U.S.
